Internal medicine is the specialty that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of adult medical problems. At Old Hook Medical in New Jersey we focus on the patient, not the problem, through our establishment of a Patient-Centered Medical Home. We advocate and practice a team approach to the care of every patient, involving family and caregivers in the process.

An important aspect of our medical practice is preventive medicine. Physicians know that most diseases do not present with symptoms until they have reached an advanced stage. For example, heart disease might first present with hypertension. Diabetes is often diagnosed in a patient who is overweight. At OHM we work hard to help our patients modify any risk factors that can be changed. We encourage patients to eat a healthy diet, exercise, and of course to stop smoking. If medications are needed for treatment of a condition, we’ll help patients learn to take them properly.

Our focus is always on the whole person whom we treat with care and compassion.
