When it’s time for your colonoscopy, you can feel confident at Old Hook Medical because our colonoscopy suite is state-of-the-art with endoscopists highly trained and attuned to finding even subtle lesions such as flat, right-sided polyps. Small or flat colon polyps, particularly in women, can be easily missed and operator expertise is critical for their detection and removal. We adhere to strict guidelines for conducting colonoscopies, with our goal to maximize polyp detection. For instance, slower withdrawal times allow for better visualization of lesions and polyps. Our suite is Medicare and AAAhC certified. We use only Board-certified anesthesiologists for our procedures.

Hepatitis C is a viral disease that leads to inflammation of the liver and often has no symptoms. Risk factors for the disease include a history of IV drug use, transfusions that occurred before 1992, or tattoos. Prolonged infection can lead to cirrhosis of the liver and liver cancer. New, highly effective anti-viral drugs are available to treat this condition and have doubled response rates vs. older drug regimens. Screening for Hepatitis C is strongly recommended in certain risk populations.

My personal interest is in Esophageal Reflux Disease. Heartburn has become more common in the U.S. as the obesity epidemic continues to gain strength. Frequent heartburn should not be ignored since it can be associated with an increased risk for esophageal cancer. Reflux may not always present itself as heartburn but may have symptoms such as cough, mucus in the throat, hoarseness, and pain/trouble with swallowing. Any of these symptoms that persist for more than a couple of weeks should be discussed with your OHM physician.
