Our referral department is open part-time. Messages are checked 2-3 times per week and referrals take 3-5 business days to be processed. Unless otherwise stated, referrals will be mailed to you.       What is the protocol for obtaining prior authorization for my medication?

Unfortunately, we are unable to make individual telephone calls to patient’s insurance companies to obtain prior authorization. Instead, we request that the patient contacts his/her insurance carrier and has the prior authorization form faxed to our office. Old Hook physicians will complete the form and fax it back to the insurance carrier.

The doctor will not renew my medication because I haven't been seen within the last 3 months. Why is that?

Standard medication protocol dictates that patients who are on continuing medication(s) are to be monitored every three months. If your medication has been denied for a renewal because you haven’t been seen recently, we will renew your prescription for the short amount of time needed to allow you to see your physician.

  • 14)
If I see one doctor in your office, will another doctor have access to my medical records?

Yes, our electronic health records computer system allows Old Hook physicians to update your records instantaneously and share information.

  • 15)
Can I see more than one doctor in the same day?

The only insurance company that will allow a patient to see more than one doctor in a day is Medicare. All other insurance carriers prohibit a patient from seeing multiple doctors in the same practice on the same day.

I had my blood work done several weeks ago and haven't heard the results. Why is that?

Our medical assistants call patients with their laboratory tests results only in the event of abnormal findings. We do not call for normal results. However, you are welcome to call us and we will be happy to discuss the findings with you.

I was told that Old Hook Medical Associates accepts my insurance for a colonoscopy, however in the information package it mentions that the Surgicenter is out of network.

All of our doctors (gastroenterologists included) accept all major health insurances. While our Surgicenter is out for network for most insurances you are only responsible for your in-network deductible and obligations. The Surgicenter is in-network for Oxford, United Healthcare and Horizon.
